- Sumy Head Guarantees Equal Treatment of All Religions 2008-05-09
- Sumy Head of the Sumy Regional State Administration Mykola Lavryk met with Bishop Stepan Menko of the Donetsk-Kharkiv Exarchate of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church on 8 May 2008 to discuss church-state problems as they pertain to the UGCC. In particular, Bishop Stepan asked the regional head to address the issue of land allocation for the construction of a UGCC church in Sumy and of renting a building for parishioner receptions in Romny.

- Kyiv On 24 April 2008, parliamentary deputy of the Our Ukraine - Peoples Self-Defense bloc Hennadii Moskal registered a bill in the Supreme Council that regulates the activity of new religions. According to Moskal, the bill is aimed at improving Ukraines law regarding the freedom of religious activity, as it prevents the activity of destructive religious cults and totalitarian sects.

- Pastoral work for Ukrainian emigrants requires special pastoral program. This was the conclusion of Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna), Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainian Greek-Catholics in Italy, Spain and Ireland, after his stay during Passion Week and Easter in Spain. "The lack of catechetical programs is sharply felt for the faithful, and not only children and youth, Bishop Hlib told the Information Department.Plenty of people did not receive a basic religious education in their young days and live only with what they managed to learn in church during services. But if you ask them why they believe, they will not be able to explain. However, the external circumstances of immigrants life do not allow priests or catechists to give them more religious formation, because mainly they have a day off only on weekends." - On 3-4 May 2008, at the Lavra [Major Monastery] of the Holy Dormition of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) in western Ukrainian Univ, Lviv Region, on the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the renewal of Studite monastic life, solemn celebrations took place. In addition to this jubilee, on these days Blessed Archimandrite Klymentii (Sheptytsky) was honored. An important event was the granting of stauropegion status (direct dependence to the patriarch) to the Lavra of the Holy Dormition in Univ.

- The new iconostas (icon-screen) for the Church of the Holy Spirit at Holy Spirit Seminary in western Ukrainian Lviv was blessed on 4 May 2007. Archbishop Ihor Vozniak of Lviv blessed it before the Liturgy. Singing for the Liturgy was the Byzantine Mens Choir from Utrecht, Holland.
- US Ambassador and State Committee Head Discuss Religious Freedom in Ukraine 2008-05-07
- Kyiv Head of the State Committee on Matters of Nationalities and Religions (SCMNR) Aleksandr Sagan met with the US Ambassador to Ukraine William Tailor on 5 May 2008 in Kyiv to discuss religious issues in Ukraine. The representatives addressed questions pertaining to freedom of worship and confession, restitution of religious buildings, activity of migration service bodies, how to best combat xenophobia, racial intolerance and antisemitism, and implementation of an ethnic-national policy.

- On April 2, 2008, His Beatitude Lubomyr, Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych, signed a decree which, on the basis of the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the UGCC which last year was held in Philadelphia, proclaimed the convocation of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church 2008. The synod will take place in Lviv from September 2 to 9. His Beatitude Lubomyr calls the faithful of the Church to pray for the preparation and conduct of the synod so that its work will be fruitful for the life of the UGCC.

- Odesa On 3 May 2008, Fr. Herkulian Petro Malchuk, auxiliary bishop of the Odesa-Simferopol Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC), was ordained a bishop at the Cathedral of the Assumption of the Holy Mother of God in Odesa. Lvivs Roman Catholic Metropolitan, Cardinal Marian Yavorskyi administered the ordination, for which 14 bishops travelled to Odesa.

- On May 2, 2008, at 13.00 in the Vatican it was reported that His Holiness Benedict XVI has blessed the decision of the Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church about the appointment of priest-monk Bryan Joseph Bayda, CSSR, pastor of the Church of the Mother of God of Perpetual Help in Yorkton (Canada), as Eparch of Saskatoon. It was also reported that, according to can. 210 of the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches, the resignation from government of the Most Rev. Bishop Michael (Wiwchar), former Eparch of Saskatoon, was accepted.
