The inspiration for Italian neo-realism came from a movie filmed in a Ukrainian studio
The film "Rainbow" was shot by Mark Donskoy in 1943 in a Kyiv film studio and later evacuated to central Asia during WWII.
After watching the film US President Roosevelt sent a personal telegram of thanks to the film director, and the movie was praised by the US Cinema and Radio Association later in 1944.
